New Online Portfolio and Services Page

portfolio imageAh… the online portfolio.

Like so many things about “self-marketing”, when things are going well we tend to push them back. I had it on my To-Do list for quite some time but it took a couple of, “so where’s your portfolio” inquiries to finally make me put aside some time this last Memorial Day weekend and put something together.

I had thought long and hard as to whether I should use straight HTML to present my work or use Flash. I ultimately chose the latter. Besides how nice a multimedia presentation tool it is, I like to keep the whole presentation self-contained. I can also bundle it up and send it off as a self-running demo on a CD if I choose, complete with slick transitions. I also prefer the little extra security that embedding imagery in Flash presents. No temptation to “drag and drop” an image to the desktop, it’s not easily possible. And anything other than that is pure calculated thievery.

I had planned on building it all by hand in Flash (and still may do so in the future) but came across Todd Dominey’s SlideShowPro, a Flash MX 2004 component which is rather slick. It uses XML and external images sources and is a breeze to update and maintain which is key for me when I’m busy with client work.

Along with the updated online portfolio, I’ve included a services page which quickly outlines just a few of the things I do for clients, from traditional and digital illustration to animation and interactive design.

This is just one of a few more updates to this site, so be sure and stay tuned…
